Making room for baby sister...

We knew the day would have to come, although we have been avoiding it for the past month or so. Knowing that baby sister is arriving in September, Cole has to give up his crib. While I am excited for him to have a new big boy bed, I am also apprehensive about changing our routine. Cole is a champ sleeper and messing with sleep is not high on my list right now.

However, Sunday we just went for it. Cole woke up in the morning in a crib and went down for a nap at noon in a toddler bed. I have no pictures to post as they would not demonstrate the traumatic hour it took to get him to sleep. After he finally wore himself out fighting sleeping in the toddler bed, he crawled in, laid down and zonked out. We have had success ever since!

This morning he finally realized that he could get himself out of the bed on his own. I am hoping this doesn't create issues tonight for bedtime...but no time like the present to deal with it. He will get his real big boy bed in August when we put baby sister's room together.

It's still hard to believe in just 2 1/2 months we will be a family of 4...

Once he learns he can get up and play in the middle of the night he'll love the new bed. We used to catch Charlie reading in the dark at 2 am...we only caught him because 1/2 of his books make noise. Fun times for you guys!

We had some success and some set backs with Kenzie and the big girl bed... once she realized she could get out of bed she stayed up forever but we did a baby lock on the inside of her door, taped together since could get it off and then a baby gate on the outside. Now she no longer tries to escape when she's suppose to be sleeping... maybe someday I'll actually let her get out on her own!

Hey Kelli,
We transitioned Alina when she was a little older then 2. I had Leah when Alina was 2.5 so that gave me some time to "fail" and recover. Alina loved coming out (with any excuse) right after bedtime but once asleep she was really good. So the baby gate worked wonderful, she learned quickly to stay in bed. I am trying to decide when to transition Leah since there will be no third baby to decide when... Good Luck

We too have a child lock on th door inside caden's room. He can't get out of his room unless we let him. That is mostly so he doesn't wander the house at night. He does knock on the door after he goes to bed and cries sometimes saying "mommy I want out" but that is what we have to do. :) Good Luck!
